Politico reports that two closely watched Senate contests - that of Georgia and Louisiana - could be decided by runoff elections that would take place in December.
Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes and celiac disease appear to share a common genetic origin, scientists at the University of Cambridge and Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, have confirmed.
Researchers have found that when in deep sleep, the brain waves within can start off a cleaning system within the brain that can protect it against Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative brain diseases. The study titled, "Coupled electrophysiological, hemodynamic, and cerebrospinal fluid oscillations in human sleep," was published this week in the latest issue of the journal Science.
A special report published in the October issue of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons indicates that an alarming 35% of initial diagnostic breast biopsies in the United States are still being done using unnecessary open surgical techniques. This in spite of the fact that it costs as much as three times more than the much less invasive and equally accurate needle biopsy technique.
