The World Health Organization (WHO)/the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and partners have set out their strategic response to Zika which will place a greater focus on preventing and managing medical complications caused by Zika virus infection.
Researchers at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico, developed a technology capable of identifying pathogens in food and beverages. This technique could work in the restaurant industry as a biosensor to detect in what conditions food is before being eaten in order to avoid possible gastrointestinal diseases.
Research conducted by Nobel laureate Paul Greengard, Medical Director of The Michael Stern Parkinson's Research Center at The Rockefeller University, Dr. Jennifer L. Warner-Schmidt in New York and colleagues in Sweden, demonstrated in the Journal of Neuroscience that the brain protein called p11 could lead pharmaceutical companies to develop anti-depression drugs that begin working within hours or days rather than the weeks or even months required by current drugs.
The Alzheimer's Association announced that it has received a $1.34 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health to strengthen the current framework for psychosocial research examining care for people living with dementia and their care partners.
