Dialysis patients whose mental health deteriorates over time have an increased risk of developing heart problems and dying prematurely, according to a study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society Nephrology.
A study published today in Drugs & Aging found that older adults in Ontario with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were twice as likely to use prescription synthetic oral cannabinoids compared to older adults without COPD.
This study demonstrates that over 6 weeks of treatment, patients with melancholic depression and medical comorbidity (MC) (specifically cardiovascular or endocrinological MC) had poorer treatment response and a worse functional outcome as opposed to their counterparts without MC. Interestingly, these effects were not related to various antidepressant treatment regimens.
Investor's Business Daily on Monday examined how some large employers, such as Sprint Nextel and Waste Management, have begun "cutting the middleman in heath insurance" and have "signed direct-contracting deals with medical groups instead of insurers" to help reduce costs.
