Smiths Medical, a leading global medical device manufacturer, announced today it received a license from Health Canada and launched its Medfusion® 4000 syringe infusion pump with the PharmGuard® software suite in Canada. Researchers have been able to reconstruct the genome sequence of an outbreak strain of Shiga-toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC), which caused over 50 deaths in Germany, using an approach known as metagenomics which bypasses the need for growing bacteria in the lab.
There may be a link between exposure to light during pregnancy and fetal brain development. New findings by researchers at Umeå University, Sweden, working in collaboration with American colleagues, may provide better understanding of certain neurological diseases later in life.
