When it comes to discussing the serious things in life, like being ill, men are likely to joke and laugh their way through it according to new research launched today at the British Pharmaceutical Conference.
Cancer cells are well known for their altered metabolisms, which may help them generate the energy they need for rapid growth. Using an emerging imaging technology, researchers reporting in the July Cell Metabolism, a Cell Press publication, have discovered that those metabolic shifts actually develop even before detectable tumors form.
Leading eye research charity Fight for Sight has found that nearly three in ten British adults don't follow the NHS recommendation to have an eye test every two years, and that the majority of this group (74%) say that it's either because they can't afford it or because they ‘can see fine'.
Abuse and neglect during childhood appear to be associated with increased rates of mood, anxiety and substance use disorders among young adults, according to a report in the June issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
In a study of orangutans living on the Indonesian islands of Borneo and Sumatra, scientists from Duke University and the University of Zurich have found what they say is the first demonstration in primates of an evolutionary connection between available food supplies and brain size.
