Smokers who continue to smoke while undergoing radiation treatments for head and neck cancer fare significantly worse than those who quit smoking before therapy, according to a study in the February issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology•Biology•Physics, an official journal of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
The Trust for America's Health (TFAH) commended the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee for approving an historic $1.27 billion for prevention and public health for fiscal year 2011. This proposed funding would include $750 million, the second installment of the new Prevention and Public Health Fund that was created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Chembio Diagnostics, Inc., which develops, manufactures, markets and licenses point-of-care diagnostic tests, has agreed to provide over 2,000 PrimaTB STAT-PAK tuberculosis (TB) testing kits which are approved for use in Macaques to the Orangutan Conservancy (OC) to support the organization's continued drive to raise the level of veterinary care at orangutan rehabilitation centers.
Unilife Corporation today announced that it has signed an exclusive five-year agreement with Stason Pharmaceuticals Inc, a U.S.-based pharmaceutical company, to market the Unitract™ 1mL safety syringe in Japan, China and Taiwan. Stason's Taiwan-based strategic alliance affiliate, Standard Chem. and Pharm. Co., LTD, will act as the primary distributor of the product within these designated territories.
