A team of scientists at Umeå University, in collaboration with colleagues in Melbourne, Australia, have found that television viewing and lack of exercise at age 16 is associated with the risk of developing metabolic syndrome at 43 years age.
To date, there is no drug approved for medical therapy of chordoma patients. Supporting research for chordoma (a very rare cancer arising from the skull base or the spine and affecting only one person in a million per year) was the focus of talks that took place on 30 April 2015 at the European Medicines Agency in London. The workshop was attended by patients, oncologists, pathologists, regulators, statisticians and industry representatives.
Why is it that, despite consuming the same number of calories, sodium and sugar, some people face little risk of diabetes or obesity while others are at higher risk? A new study by investigators at Brigham and Women's Hospital has uncovered mutations in a gene that appear to help drive this difference.
A new study to pilot the effectiveness of anti-psychotic drugs in the treatment of anorexia is about to commence at the University of Melbourne's ORYGEN Research Centre.
