According to Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, the search for an improved method of treating atrial fibrillation (AF) will be unaffected by the recent mixed decision by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) panel on Medtronic's phased radiofrequency (RF) pulmonary vein ablation catheter (PVAC).
Called the "Little Women," six women who have spent the past three years listening, documenting and researching parental concerns about Gardasil have been invited to formally present their information to the FDA on March 12. FDA participants include the Office of Communication, Outreach and Development/Center of Biologics (CBER), Office of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, and Office of Vaccines Research and Review.
From 1997 to 2006, the number of long-term acute care hospitals doubled, the number of Medicare patients who were transferred to a long-term acute care hospital after a critical illness tripled, and the 1 year survival for these patients was poor, according to a study in the June 9 issue of JAMA.
An international clinical trial that used genetic testing to guide which antiplatelet medication was given to patients following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) did not meet its stated goal for cutting in half the incidence of serious adverse cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, in the year following the procedure.
