Lymphedema, a chronic swelling condition that can appear after breast cancer surgery, is a risk for 1.3 million breast cancer survivors. Although lymphedema can cause lifelong swelling in the arms, back, neck and chest, there is no national standard of diagnosis or care.
Roger Gomis, ICREA researcher at the Institute of Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) has set up the spin-off Supragen. With the support of IRB Barcelona and the Instituci- Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avan-ats (ICREA), this initiative is the second biotech company to emerge from the institute since June and the third since this centre was set up towards the end of 2005.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is reporting progress towards ensuring access to pandemic influenza vaccines for developing countries in the event of a pandemic and other vaccine-related aspects of influenza pandemic preparedness.
Antigenics, Inc. today announced the expansion of a phase 2 clinical study of HSPPC-96 (Oncophage® vaccine; vitespen), Antigenics' personalized therapeutic cancer vaccine, in patients with newly diagnosed glioma.
