Chemists at New York University have developed a device that allows for the translation of DNA sequences, thereby serving as a factory for assembling the building blocks of new materials.
Extending hepatitis C treatment for liver transplant patients beyond current practice results in high rates of clearance of the hepatitis C virus from the blood, as well as a low rate of relapse, according to a Henry Ford Hospital study.
Development of a vaccine to prevent the malaria parasite from entering the human liver is the goal of a new collaboration announced today by global leaders in malaria research and vaccine development. The PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI), Merck (known outside the US and Canada as MSD), and NYU Langone Medical Center are working together to evaluate an approach targeting a novel part of a major surface protein on the malaria parasite. Malaria is estimated to kill close to 900,000 people each year with the majority of deaths occurring in children under the age of five in sub-Saharan Africa.
Eclipsys Corp.® and Microsoft Corp. today announced they have signed an alliance agreement to deliver the choice and flexibility that hospitals need and want to improve health information technology (HIT) efficiencies. Breaking with the tradition of closed, proprietary systems, the two companies will offer the market tightly integrated health IT solutions designed to make it easy for physicians, nurses and hospital administrators to gain insights from data aggregated from multiple clinical and financial systems across the hospital.
