Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat menopausal estrogen deficiency has been in widespread use for over 60 years. Several observational studies over the years showed that HRT use by younger postmenopausal women was associated with a significant reduction in total mortality; available evidence supported the routine use of HRT to increase longevity in postmenopausal women.
Astronaut Koichi Wakata of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) studied the effect of microgravity on bone density as well as on plants building their shape during his stay in the International Space Station (ISS) with an inverted research microscope by Leica Microsystems, the Leica DMI6000 B. He returned to earth with new data from several experiments at the ISS module "Kibo" which will now be evaluated and analyzed by him and collaborating scientists at Japanese research institutions.

The research is published in the March 4th issue of the journal Cell.
GP training, improved access to memory clinics and a public campaign for awareness are necessary to improve the diagnosis of dementia in the UK, says the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia.
