A nanoparticle that can destroy drug-resistant bacteria developed by the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN), and the IBM Almaden Research Center, has recently been named one of 10 world changing ideas by Scientific American in its Technology Special Report ('World Changing Ideas – 10 New Technologies That Will Make a Difference', December 2011).
NanoString Technologies, Inc., a provider of life science tools for translational research and molecular diagnostic products, today presented the first proof-of-concept data for its novel massively parallel single molecule sequencing chemistry, Hyb & Seq™, at the Advances in Genome Biology and Technology Meeting being held in Orlando, Florida.
Research conducted by the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc. (CARD), shines new light on the effects of a popular form of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) treatment for children with autism and related disorders. The "Randomized Trial of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Children with Autism" study reveals that HBOT, consisting of 24% oxygen delivered at 1.3 atmospheres of pressure, does not have a significant effect on symptoms of autism.
"The government in Pakistan's eastern province of Punjab is struggling to control a growing dengue fever epidemic, officials say," and they "have warned that it threatens to affect other parts of the country," BBC News reports.
About 3.5 million motor vehicle crash victims were treated in emergency departments in 2006 for injuries ranging from scrapes and bruises to life-threatening trauma, according to the latest News and Numbers from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
