Individuals who have higher levels of education and who are more impaired by Parkinson's disease appear to require treatment for their symptoms earlier than do other patients, according to a report posted online today that will appear in the September print issue of Archives of Neurology, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
For the first time, researchers have used a technique called optical imaging to visualize changes in nerve connections when flies learn. These changes may be the beginning of a complex chain of events that leads to formation of lasting memories.
Tuberculosis is one of the world's most vexing public health problems. About 1.5 million people died from this bacterial lung infection in 2018, and the World Health Organization estimates that one-quarter of the world's population - some 2 billion people, mostly in developing countries - are infected with the bacteria that causes TB.
A survey of men age 40 to 74 found that 54 percent said that they would still opt for a popular prostate cancer screening test despite recent recommendations that the test not be performed, finds a new study in American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Only 13 percent said they would choose not to be tested.
DynaVox Inc., a leading provider of software, devices and content to assist people in overcoming their speech, language or learning disabilities, announced today that its initial public offering of 9,375,000 shares of its Class A common stock has been priced at $15.00 per share. The shares are expected to begin trading tomorrow, April 22, 2010, on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the ticker symbol "DVOX."
