The Food and Drug Administration can promote progress toward personalized medicine by approaching the oversight of laboratory developed tests (LDTs) in a focused, flexible, and balanced way according to the American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA). ACLA, which represents the nation's leading clinical laboratories, says that the factors supporting this approach include the growing role that such tests play in clinical decision making, especially in the area of new advanced diagnostics that derive from the mapping of the human genome and help fulfill the promise of personalized medicine.
Results of a subanalysis from the FAIR-HF study demonstrate that correcting iron deficiency with Ferinject (ferric carboxymaltose) can improve renal function in chronic heart failure patients. Ferinject is an intravenous iron product used to treat iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia.
The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) welcomed today the unanimous ruling by the Supreme Court of Canada allowing Vancouver's supervised drug injection facility, Insite, to continue to operate.
Immunomodulatory drugs, including the Contergan derivatives lenalidomide and pomalidomide, have significantly improved the therapy of hematologic malignancies such as multiple myeloma.
