Research scientists at Regenstrief Institute and Indiana University School of Medicine have conducted the first randomized controlled trial to evaluate the pros and cons of population screening for dementia.
New evidence may explain why it is that we lose not only our youthful looks, but also our youthful pattern of gene activity with age.
Aortic stenosis is the most common heart valve disease in the elderly. It is associated with congenital bicuspid aortic valve and previous rheumatic heart disease, but is also often caused by calcification of a normal valve. Calcification of a normal valve may be associated with atherosclerotic changes in the portion of the aorta closest to the valve.
In diseases such as hypertension, aging, atherosclerosis, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, arterial calcification and stiffening of the elastic layer of the arterial wall are almost always present.
