Ten scientists were named Pew Latin American Fellows in the Biomedical Sciences by The Pew Charitable Trusts today. The fellowship provides support to advance grantees' research, enables them to study with prominent U.S. scientists, and invests seed capital to help them establish laboratories in their home countries.
Today marks the launch of the first-ever national advertising campaign in the 90-year history of physiotherapy in Canada. Commercials about physiotherapy will air on the CTV national network, TSN, and Sportsnet during coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver when large numbers of Canadians will be tuning in. The ads will also be appearing on CBC's News Network and TVA's Salut Bonjour. A companion print ad will follow to extend the reach of the message, in time for May, which is National Physiotherapy Month.
A team of scientists from the USA has recently predicted the driver mutations that may appear in future variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The prediction is based on currently available genetic surveillance data on amino acid mutations present in SARS-CoV-2 variants. A detailed description of the study is currently available on the medRxiv* preprint server.
A new study by researchers from the UK and Germany and published on the preprint server bioRxiv in June 2020 reports the results of a detailed study of the S protein on the intact virus, using cryoelectron microscopy (cryoEM) and tomography. This could help understand the conformation of the S protein on the virion and how it interacts with neutralizing antibodies.
