Florence Nightingale once stated that nursing is an art that requires as much devotion and preparation as any painting or sculpture. This sentiment is echoed in the work of today's nurses and their pursuit of both clinical knowledge and technical expertise. Nurses from The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) and throughout the country, will be doing their part in contributing to the art of nursing when presenting at the Oncology Nursing Society's 35th Annual Congress being held this week in San Diego, California.
It seems increasingly likely that health care politics will play an important role in the midterm elections come November. But unlike every election since 2010, this year finds the Democrats playing offense and the Republicans back on their heels.
A Texas baby was born with a birth weight of 16 pounds and one ounce. JaMichael Brown's weight was more than double the national average for a newborn and he measures 24 inches long, just a few inches shy of an average one-year-old. He is the biggest baby ever born at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, located on the border between Texas and Louisiana. The hospital has been open since 1938 and last year delivered nearly 2,900 babies.
Genetic tests conducted on blood samples may replace the current biopsies when it comes to checking if immune systems are rejecting new organs of heart transplant patients. The test would be far less invasive and uncomfortable as compared to the biopsies, not to mention more affordable.
Researchers have developed a way to prop up a struggling immune system to enable its fight against sepsis, a deadly condition resulting from the body's extreme reaction to infection.
