Family carers for children and adults with intellectual disabilities have reported rates of mental health problems under lockdown that are up to 10 times higher than parents without those responsibilities, a new study has found.
George Washington University researcher, Dr. Valerie Hu, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and her team at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, have found that male and female sex hormones regulate expression of an important gene in neuronal cell culture through a mechanism that could explain not only higher levels of testosterone observed in some individuals with autism, but also why males have a higher incidence of autism than females.
The entry deadline has been extended for the second annual CLIO Healthcare Awards. All work appearing between January 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010 must be submitted to the CLIO Healthcare Awards no later than August 27, 2010. In an effort to provide an innovative and eco-friendly entry process, once again the CLIO Healthcare Awards will receive submissions online only at www.CLIOHealthcare.com. Professionals now have additional time to refine their entries, including international work, made eligible for the first time.

Most patients hand over the sample and give little thought to what happens when it's shipped to the lab for analysis. Ken Marcus and his students are the exceptions. They have developed a new testing method that they believe will reduce costs, get faster results and lower the volume of urine needed for a sample.
A worldwide licensing arrangement for development, production and marketing of an antiepileptic drug created at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has been signed by Shire Pharmaceuticals with Yissum, the Hebrew University's technology transfer company.
