GE Healthcare, a unit of the General Electric Company, today presented interim phase 2 study results of fluciclatide, in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, a federal research agency and part of the National Institutes of Health. Fluciclatide is an integrin-targeted radiopharmaceutical under development for oncology PET imaging.
Irving Place Capital, a middle-market private equity firm, announced today that it has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Alpha Packaging, a leading blow molder of plastic bottles and jars for the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and personal care markets. IPC is investing in partnership with Alpha's current management team, led by President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Spence and Chief Operating Officer Dan Creston. The transaction is expected to close in September of 2010.
Levodopa, or L-dopa, is considered the most effective treatment for Parkinson's disease today. After a few years of treatment, however, almost all patients develop a debilitating side-effect called L-dopa induced dyskinesia, or LID, which causes involuntary movements in the limbs, face, and torso. Deep brain stimulation can alleviate LID, but the procedure is highly invasive and not all patients are eligible.
Boston Scientific Corporation today announced 12-month results from its PERSEUS clinical program that demonstrated positive safety and efficacy outcomes in workhorse lesions for the platinum chromium TAXUS® Element™ Paclitaxel-Eluting Stent System compared to the TAXUS® Express2™ Paclitaxel-Eluting Stent System.
According to a press release from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the fund's Board on Friday "voted to adopt a new approach to funding grants that will enable the organization to invest the world's money more strategically and for greater impact."
