Biovail Corporation has announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted for review (effective date June 13, 2004) Biovail's submission of a New Drug Application (NDA) for a novel dosage format of citalopram for the treatment of depression.
About 500,000 babies are born premature in the United States each year, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Those infants, born before 37 weeks of gestation, will likely deal with the threat of numerous complications or even death.
UvA professors Cees Snoek and Marcel Worring are starting a new public-private research lab together with researchers from the Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence Ltd. from the United Arab Emirates led by Professor Ling Shao.
For the first time, quantitative-not qualitative-data analysis has demonstrated that time-of-flight positron emission tomography scans can improve cancer detection.
Living in an environment teaming with bacteria and fungi, fish have evolved powerful defenses against waterborne pathogens, including antimicrobial peptides located in their gills. Undergraduate researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute are studying the biology and the mechanics of one of those peptides with the hope they can use that knowledge to create engineered surfaces that kill bacteria responsible for foodborne illnesses and hospital-acquired infections.
