Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute have identified a novel synthetic compound that sharply inhibits the activity of a protein that plays an important role in in the progression of breast and pancreatic cancers.
For the second year, Total Medical Solutions (TMS) has made Inc. magazine's list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the US. The 2010 Inc. 500/5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2006 to 2009. TMS saw its revenue grow by 53 percent and ranks as number 291 in its industry category of Health.
Over the past decade, vitamin E has become one of the top-selling supplements in the United States, in part because research released in the early- to mid-1990s suggested that taking vitamin E supplements might protect against heart disease, boost the immune system and reduce the risk of macular degeneration.
A UCLA-led study suggests that for people with recurrent glioblastoma, administering an immunotherapy drug before surgery is more effective than using the drug afterward.
