You don't have to be a member of the armed forces to have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but nearly 20 percent of service members deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan reported having symptoms. In recognition of June as PTSD Awareness Month, Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is offering 10 tips for how to help someone who may be suffering from PTSD.
IVT Corporation announced today that it will demonstrate its new mobile health system at GSMA Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong on Nov. 18-19, at Booth F08, and CES 2010 in Las Vegas. This system allows medical monitoring from home, reducing risk of diseases and assisting with emergency rescue.
A cholera epidemic that began in January 2011 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is continuing because of "poor hygiene, lack of awareness of the population about transmission mechanisms, very limited access to protected and monitored water sources and lack of sanitation infrastructure," according to Nona Zicherman, chief of emergency operations in DRC for UNICEF, IRIN reports.
The European Society of Cardiology has released new guidelines for Cardiac Pacing and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy. These new guidelines cover two main areas: The permanent pacing in bradyarrhythmias, syncope and other specific conditions like hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and ventricular resynchronization as an adjunct therapy in patients with heart failure.
