Advances in tissue engineering and stem cell therapies will be among the research topics discussed during the National Institutes of Health's fourth Symposium on Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine, which will be held Oct. 4-5.
Johns Hopkins University has been awarded $15 million over the next five years from the National Institutes of Health to establish the new Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). CFAR will support more than 180 HIV investigators from the University's Bloomberg School of Public Health, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing and other schools. A major priority for CFAR will be to address Baltimore's HIV epidemic in addition to training new investigators and conducting international research.
New research by a team of scientists at Stanford University School of Medicine in the U.S. found that both the UK and South African SARS-CoV-2 variants display tighter binding to the ACE2 receptor.
UConn associate professor of pharmaceutics Xiuling Lu, along with professor of chemistry Rajeswari M. Kasi, was part of a team that recently published a paper in Nature Cell Biology finding a commonly used chemotherapy drug may be repurposed as a treatment for resurgent or chemotherapy-resistant leukemia.
