Epilepsy prevalence and incidence is greater than earlier thought in the United States. The latest study shows that one in every 26 people in the United States will develop epilepsy at some point in their life. Experts believe this new revelation calls for more attention and funding for the disease.
Scientists at the Walter Reed Army Institute for Research demonstrated that biomarkers associated with traumatic brain injury were elevated among law enforcement and military personnel, particularly in active duty participants with longer duration of service.
Even before the current financial crisis, there was a growing concern over the fiscal and social sustainability of long-term care for dependent older people. Yet despite these concerns, little is known about basic indicators on this subject. The present publication, "Facts and Figures on Long-term Care - Europe and North America" seeks to bridge that gap of information by bringing together information from international and national sources to present comparable indicators on long-term care.
Scientists from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine have identified dendritic antigen presenting cells in zebrafish, opening the possibility that the tiny fish could become a new model for studying the complexities of the human immune system.
