Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that in connection with its previously announced creditor protection proceedings under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (Canada), it and certain of its subsidiaries filed with the Supreme Court of British Columbia the Second Amended and Restated CCAA Plan of Compromise or Arrangement concerning, affecting and involving the Angiotech Entities.
A bile acid that can turn off a receptor in the gut has prevented and reversed fatty liver disease in mice, according to an international team of researchers. The compound may help treat certain metabolic disorders, such as Type 2 diabetes and obesity, as well.
Kaiser Health News reports that "employers struggling with the steady rise of health insurance costs - which in 2009 increased 5 percent to an average of $13,375 for family coverage - are passing on more of the expense to their workers through higher deductibles and co-payments, according to survey released today." The survey was by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust (Galewitz and Villegas, 9/15).
The criticism of Gov. Peter Shumlin's push for a publicly funded health care system came during a debate on the eve of the primary. Also, in Virginia, Republican Senate candidate Ed Gillespie unveils a tax plan that would repeal taxes in the health law.
Central Baptist Hospital is one of only 164 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation's NCDR ACTION Registry–Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2012.
