Researchers at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital have identified a previously undiagnosed condition and successfully treated it by performing an experimental stem cell transplant.
The Journal of the American Medical Association has announced that it will instruct anyone filing a complaint about potential conflicts of interest of a study author to refrain from contacting third parties or the media about the allegation until the journal investigates the matter, the Wall Street Journal reports.
As anyone who has ever consumed bacteria-contaminated food and experienced "food poisoning" can tell you, it's a miserable experience. Yet it's an all-too-common one, with foodborne illnesses making 1 in 6 Americans - or 48 million people - sick each year. Of these people sickened, 128,000 end up in the hospital, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while 3,000 die.
The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA), the largest private funder of melanoma research, today announced grant awards exceeding $9.6 million to 49 scientists at leading academic institutions around the world for investigating new treatments and cures for melanoma.
Pain was the main driver of seeking medical care in an Arthritis Care & Research study of patients with osteoarthritis. In addition to pain, insomnia and depression increased health care use.
