Enventis, a subsidiary of HickoryTech, today announces it has been selected by Park Nicollet Health Services to deploy a Cisco Unified Communications and collaboration solution across their business including 19 clinics, the Methodist Hospital and the Park Nicollet Clinic campus. Researchers at Hospital for Special Surgery have been awarded a $100,000 grant from the National Football League (NFL) Charities to research the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells as treatments for tendon injury and degeneration. For years, PRP has been used to improve healing in various sports injuries, but there is little evidence of its efficacy.
Today, University of Minnesota Medical School researchers published the results from the first randomized clinical trial testing hydroxychloroquine for the post-exposure prevention of COVID-19.
"AIDS drugs should be given to all who need them to reduce new infections, the World Health Organization said," following a three-day meeting on the topic of using antiretroviral therapy (ART) to help prevent the spread of HIV, Bloomberg reports. "Providing more antiretroviral drugs 'will achieve a significant transmission benefit,' Teguest Guerma, interim director of the WHO's AIDS department, said … 'In the past, there has been a false dichotomy between prevention and treatment. …'That is really what has been corrected. Prevention and treatment are two faces of the same coin'" (Bennett, 11/5).
Direct communication with healthcare professionals, in the form of so-called "Dear doctor" letters, can be effective in reducing inappropriate and unsafe use of medicines, Dutch scientists believe.
