A new survey of stroke survivors has shown that those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are less likely to adhere to treatment regimens that reduce the risk of an additional stroke. Researchers found that 65 percent of stroke survivors with PTSD failed to adhere to treatment, compared with 33 percent of those without PTSD.
Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute has entered into a collaboration with Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., to discover compounds for Alzheimer's disease and major psychiatric disorders.
A new study to pilot the effectiveness of anti-psychotic drugs in the treatment of anorexia is about to commence at the University of Melbourne's ORYGEN Research Centre.
"Acknowledging that the development of medical countermeasures against bioterrorism threats and pandemic flu is lagging, [U.S.] federal authorities Thursday announced a $1.9 billion makeover of the system for identifying and manufacturing drugs and vaccines for public-health emergencies," Tribune Company/Seattle Times reports.
At the 2010 ACC conference held in Atlanta, GA, six new studies based on the PAT™ (Peripheral Arterial Tone) signal focused on assessing cardiovascular risk by measuring and improving endothelial health. Of those, two studies from Japan focused on assessing cardiovascular risk in both high and low risk patient populations.
