Gilead Sciences, Inc. today announced that its head-to-head Phase III clinical trial of Cayston (aztreonam for inhalation solution) versus tobramycin inhalation solution in cystic fibrosis patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa achieved one of its co-primary endpoints of non-inferiority for mean percent change in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) percent predicted after 28 days of treatment.
"In a letter to leaders of Congress, the secretary of health and human services, Kathleen Sebelius, reported on Monday that the Obama administration is moving quickly to carry out the expansive new health care law, particularly provisions that she referred to as 'early insurance market reforms,'" The New York Times reports.
Results from a landmark study involving more than 9,000 people showed that the high blood pressure medicine valsartan delayed progression to type 2 diabetes in patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), a common pre-diabetic condition.
Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, have developed a novel way to engineer the growth and expansion of energy-burning "good" fat, and then found that this fat helped reduce weight gain and lower blood glucose levels in mice.
