We applaud the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for taking appropriate enforcement action today against five distributors of electronic cigarettes for various violations of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA), including unsubstantiated claims and poor manufacturing practices.
Researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center have found how even brief exposure to sudden sounds or mild trauma can form permanent, long-term brain connections, or memories, in a specific region of the brain. Moreover, the research team, working with rats, says it was able to chemically stimulate those biological pathways in the locus coeruleus - the area of the brain best known for releasing the "fight or flight" hormone noradrenaline - to heighten and improve the animals' hearing.
Over half of young adults (18-24 year olds) in Europe take comfort in hearing about people's health experiences that are similar to theirs while less than a quarter of the same age-group trust online health websites and even less (17%) believe they will receive quality and dependable information from online search engines such as Google.
Along with copying and splitting DNA during division, cells must have a way to break safely into two viable daughter cells, a process called cytokinesis. But the molecular basis of how plant cells accomplish this without mistakes has been unclear for many years.
