Up to 25% of cancer patients develop metastases in the brain - often long after successful treatment of the primary tumor. In almost all such cases, the prognosis is poor. The mechanisms responsible for the appearance of brain metastases have long been mysterious.
The results of a study presented today at the European League Against Rheumatism Annual Congress showed that use of an easy to insert heart monitor in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and no known heart disease enables early detection and treatment of potentially fatal cardiac arrhythmias.
A gene linked to intellectual disability was found in a study involving the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) - a discovery that was greatly accelerated by international collaboration and new genetic sequencing technology, which is now being used at CAMH.
Heron Therapeutics, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, today announced the initiation of a Phase 3 clinical trial of SUSTOL™ (APF530), the Company's lead product candidate for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) associated with moderately and highly emetogenic chemotherapy.
Three hundred children are being recruited for a clinical trial to establish whether or not specialist silk clothing really does help in the treatment of eczema.
