Statins are a class of drugs often used to control high cholesterol levels in obesity. Now, a study published on the preprint server medRxiv* in July 2020 suggests that statins do not aggravate the risk of COVID-19 infection and may have a small beneficial effect in some cases.
New resources to help health sector employers understand and respond to the fast-changing regional skills and labour market environment have been published by Skills for Health, the UK's Skills Council for healthcare.
Research conducted through an equitable partnership of the LSTM and its partners (theRESPOND-Africaconsortium), which includes NIMR in Tanzania and MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit in Uganda, has found that integrating the care of HIV, diabetes, and hypertension into a 'one-stop clinic' can reduce the costs for both patients and healthcare services in Uganda and Tanzania.
"Brazil has been successful in its nearly 20-year effort to treat people living with" HIV/AIDS, and generic medicines have been "a large part of the solution," according to a recent Health Affairs review, UPI reports (UPI, 7/14).
