"The number of polio cases worldwide reached a record low in 2012, giving experts confidence that the disease can finally be eradicated, according to presentations made at" the annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) in Atlanta on Tuesday, Agence France-Presse reports (11/13).
A DEVICE, developed through a collaboration by a team at the University of Huddersfield and a local charity, is set to improve the quality of care for child cancer patients. Medical practitioners and a dedicated charity have signalled that they are highly impressed by the design for a special harness, that safely and comfortably, contains the tubing inserted into the chests of youngsters during treatment.
Cancer tissue taken directly from patients could be used to produce a light-triggered vaccine to target and treat their own tumours, according to a study published in the British Journal of Cancer.
ADA Technologies, Inc.'s PhysioNetics division has been awarded an $815,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The Phase II award will enable PhysioNetics to complete design refinements and commercialization activities for its low-cost upper-extremity prosthetic interface, also known as a "socket."
