The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. has signed a licensing agreement with Biocare Medical, a biotechnology company based in Concord, Calif., for the exclusive worldwide sales and distribution rights for the immunohistochemistry of an antibody designed to detect tumor prevalence in prostate cancer patients.
GlaxoSmithKline and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International announced today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has extended the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) goal date for ezogabine to 30 November 2010.
Portola Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it has initiated its first in human Phase 1 trial in healthy volunteers of PRT062607, a novel, oral Syk-specific kinase inhibitor in development to treat chronic inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and certain cancers, including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. In preclinical in vivo models of RA, PRT062607 was shown to reduce inflammation in a dose-dependent manner.

As reported in the June, 4 2010 issue of Science, administering brain-derived neurotrophic factor into the prefrontal cortex prevented rats from expressing fear to a tone that had been previously paired with a shock.
