A new project in Northern Australia will focus on how Australia can better protect and rapidly respond to the growing global risk of emergent infectious diseases which can spread to humans through animals and insects.
Medtronic, Inc. today announced it received Health Canada approval for the Medtronic Ablation Frontiers Cardiac Ablation System, a novel radiofrequency ablation technology for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. AF is the most common heart arrhythmia that affects more than 250,000 Canadians and seven million people worldwide.
The Vascular Disease Foundation announced the launch of its new "Peripheral Arterial Disease Exercise Training Toolkit: A Guide for Health Care Professionals." This toolkit was developed jointly by the Vascular Disease Foundation and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and may be accessed online at www.vdf.org/rehab-toolkit/index.php

A long-term study of the elderly has revealed that their average rate of weight loss doubles in the year before symptoms of Alzheimer's-type dementia first become detectable.
