The Protein Society, the leading international society dedicated to advancing research in to protein structure, function, design and applications, announces long-time member Michael Levitt (Stanford University School of Medicine) and 2001 Anfinsen Award recipient Martin Karplus (Universit- de Strasbourg, France and Harvard University), have been awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Researchers at the University of New South Wales (NSW) revealed that new cases of gonorrhea and Chlamydia are on the rise in Australia, particularly among young members of indigenous communities.
An international team led by researchers at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School has published new findings that demonstrate how a specific protein controls the body's ability to balance magnesium levels. Magnesium is an essential element for good health and is critical to more than 300 biochemical reactions that occur in the body.
In the study, a team of researchers led by Veridex, LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, used gene expression profiling to identify the new marker – a 23-gene signature – which may predict disease recurrence in patients initially diagnosed with Dukes' B colon cancer.
