Black children with chronic kidney disease have more severe anemia than white children even when they receive the same treatment, according to a multicenter study led by Johns Hopkins Children's Center to be published in the May issue of the American Journal of Kidney Disease.
Quantum Polymers today announced the availability of extruded stock shape plastic products made with AvaSpire® resin from Solvay Advanced Polymers (Alpharetta, Ga.). AvaSpire is a modified polyetheretherketone (PEEK) resin that has been formulated to offer improved ductility, mechanical strength and higher operating temperature relative to PEEK while retaining most of the key performance attributes of PEEK at a lower price point.

A new study to assess the effects of U.S.. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and guidance, intended to encourage greater inclusion of women and minorities in clinical drug trials, has shown appropriate levels of female participation based on the estimated sex ratio of people affected by a particular disease.
The standard regimens to treat tuberculosis (TB) are inadequate in countries with high rates of multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB. In countries with high rates of MDR-TB, patients are nearly twice as likely to fail their initial treatment than those in countries with low rates, according to a new analysis of World Health Organization (WHO) data. This finding suggests strongly that current TB treatment regimens need to updated and revised to address the shifting landscape of public health in the face of MDR-TB.
