A team of European researchers has devised a strategy to ensure that adult epidermal stem cells are safe before they are used as treatments for patients. The approach involves a clonal strategy where stem cells are collected and cultivated, genetically modified and single cells isolated before being rigorously tested to make sure they meet the highest possible safety criteria.
University of Missouri researchers believe both man and animal will benefit from their discovery that the same gene mutation found in Tibetan Terrier dogs can also be found in a fatal human neurological disorder related to Parkinson's disease.
OrthoAccel Technologies, Inc. announced this week that following a successful limited market release of AcceleDent last October it will be initiating a full-market release throughout the United Kingdom this coming September. Availability of AcceleDent, which is a regulated medical device and only available to dental professionals to prescribe to their patients, will be featured at the British Orthodontic Conference (BOC) next month in Brighton.
Over the last several decades, the prophylactic use of acid-suppressive medications to help prevent gastrointestinal bleeding in hospitalized patients has increased significantly, with some studies estimating that as many as 40 to 70 percent of all medical inpatients are given these drugs at some point during their hospitalization.
