A major new initiative for patient safety in Europe is today launched by Professor Eberhard Kochs, President of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA). The new European Patient Safety Foundation, covering all aspects of patient safety was announced by Professor Kochs during his welcome address on Saturday 1 June at the ESA's annual European Anaesthesiology Congress in Barcelona, Spain (1-4 June).
Every 30 seconds, infectious diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis kill as many people as Jack the Ripper did in his entire career. New research published in BioMed Central's open access journal International Journal of Health Geographics demonstrates how the mathematical model of geographic profiling, used in the hunt for serial killers, can help combat infectious diseases.
The Department of Neurosurgery at NYU Langone Medical Center has established a unique, multidisciplinary neuromodulation center for the treatment of complex neurological conditions including movement disorders like Parkinson's disease, chronic pain and psychiatric condition such as obsessive compulsive disorder and severe depression.
