In patients with type 2 diabetes, big swings in blood sugar levels between doctors' visits are associated with an increased risk of heart disease.
Scientists have determined unexpected characteristics of a key protein linked to blood pressure control and to nerve growth, pain control and heart tissue regeneration. The findings, published April 5 online in the journal Nature, opens doors to potential new therapies to control cardiovascular disease and pain.
Hythiam, Inc. (NASDAQ:HYTM) announced today that on September 15, 2009, the Company received a letter from The NASDAQ Stock Market indicating that because the bid price of the Company's common stock had closed below the minimum $1.00 per share threshold as set forth in NASDAQ Listing Rule 5450(a)(1) for the prior 30 consecutive business days, the Company has been provided 180 calendar days, or until March 15, 2010, to regain compliance with the minimum bid price requirement.
Researchers at Umeå University can now show that cells that grow forever get this capacity through gradual changes in the expression of genes that govern the repair of DNA damage and regulate growth and cell death. The research also shows that activation of the enzyme complex telomerase, which is necessary for unlimited growth, occurs late in this process.
