The use of an injectable, clot-preventing drug known as Low Molecular Weight Heparin to treat patients with advanced cancer complicated by blood clots increased steadily between 2000 and 2007, according to a new study published in The Oncologist, funded by the National Cancer Institute and led by Kaiser Permanente Colorado.
Excess body weight has been linked to poor academic performance in children in several previous studies. A new Finnish study now shows that a high body fat percentage is associated with poor reading skills in 6-8-year-old boys. However, these associations are largely explained by poor motor skills.
A new study is the first to produce evidence that exercise improves the prospects of beating a malignancy, and proves that being physically active boosts the odds that breast cancer patients will survive the disease.
A new three-state study shows a slight decrease in inpatient procedures for 2.4 million patients treated for lower extremity peripheral arterial disease (PAD) between 1998 and 2007, but reveals gender disparities in emergent hospital admissions and mortality rates for women.
Mayo Clinic researchers, as part of a nine-site study, helped discover the best of three currently-used treatments for convergence insufficiency in children. Convergence refers to the natural ability of the eyes to focus and align while viewing objects up close.
