Researchers at Oregon State University announced today that they have essentially stopped the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease, for nearly two years in one type of mouse model used to study the disease - allowing the mice to approach their normal lifespan.
Mylan Inc. today announced that it and its subsidiary, Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., have entered into a settlement agreement with Pfizer Inc., Pharmacia & Upjohn Company LLC and Pfizer Health AB that will resolve the parties' patent litigation in connection with Mylan Pharmaceuticals' Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Tolterodine Tartrate ER capsules, 2 mg and 4 mg, which is the generic version of Pfizer's Detrol LA, indicated for the treatment of overactive bladder with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency.
A drug called nevirapine has been shown to be effective in reducing the risk of transmission of HIV at birth, but combination therapy of nevirapine and zidovudine does not improve outcomes, according to a study published in the current HIV/AIDS Journal of the American Medical Association.
If the mother is stressed over a longer period of time during pregnancy, the concentration of stress hormones in amniotic fluid rises, as proven by an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Zurich. Short-term stress situations, however, do not seem to have an unfavorable effect on the development of the fetus.
If women change some aspects of their lifestyle now thousands of cases of breast cancer could be prevented over 20 years â€" a leading researcher predicts tomorrow (Monday).
