An annual report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows that fireworks-related eye injuries have nearly doubled, from 700 in 2016 to 1,200 in 2017. Overall, fireworks caused nearly 13,000 injuries in 2017, up from 11,000 in 2016.
The researchers selected the human adenovirus type 5 on which to base their vaccine because this replication-defective vector had already been used in their Ebola vaccine, with an excellent safety and immunogenicity profile in a phase 1 trial.
