The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused many deaths, numbering in the hundreds of thousands, over many different countries. However, the reasons for the differential mortality from region to region are far from clear, despite intensive research.
Dr. Michael Weitzman and his co-authors from New York University's College of Global Public Health and The Departments of Pediatrics and Population Health of the New York University School of Medicine have published important new research on the growing epidemic of hookah use among America's youth and young adults.
Researchers and scientists of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, in cooperation with the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, and colleagues from the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and the Czech Republic have succeeded in identifying a genetic cause of magnesium deficiency.
