Among patients with severe trauma and major bleeding, those who received a transfusion of a balanced ratio of plasma, platelets, and red blood cells (RBCs) were more likely to have their bleeding stopped and less likely to die due to loss of blood by 24 hours compared to patients who received a transfusion with a higher ratio of RBCs, according to a study in the February 3 issue of JAMA.
Data from an Australian hospital show that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients admitted for exacerbations are rarely referred for pulmonary rehabilitation, despite it being strongly recommended by national treatment guidelines.
The United States spends more on health care than any other country in the world, yet the life expectancy of its citizens is significantly shorter when compared to other high-income countries.
Two recent studies are souring milk's image among health authorities.
