The neural pathways between two areas of the brain that control the tongue - and their interactions with each other - may hold the key as to why men suffer sleep apnea much more than women.
Oncology researchers studying high-risk children's cancers have identified a protein that offers a likely target for immunotherapy-harnessing the immune system in medical treatments. In cell cultures and animal models, a potent drug attached to an antibody selectively zeroes in on cancer cells without harming healthy cells.
As people age, they may have to exercise even harder to get the benefits afforded to younger folk. That's the suggestion of a report in the February issue of the journal Cell Metabolism, showing that a signal that gives muscles a kind of metabolic boost in response to exercise is blunted in older animals.
Collegium Pharmaceutical, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, today announced that it has received Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its patent application "Abuse-Deterrent Drug Formulations", US Patent Application Number 11/149,867. The Notice of Allowance is the USPTO's official communication that the Company's application has successfully completed examination and that a patent will be issued.
Congressional Republicans continue to appear divided over what their strategy should be if the Supreme Court strikes down all or part of the health law. More immediately, though, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is targeting the measure's device tax as part of the Senate's consideration of a bill that would reauthorize the Food and Drug Administration user fees.
