A new way of opening blocked arteries in the brain using a removable stent system in people suffering strokes brought remarkably positive results in how those patients recovered from the strokes, according to a study presented this morning at the American Stroke Association's annual conference in New Orleans.
Biovail Corporation today provided an update on its Phase III program with pimavanserin for Parkinson's disease psychosis (PDP), which is being pursued in collaboration with ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc. Following the announcement on September 1st of disappointing top-line results from the first Phase III PDP trial, Biovail and ACADIA remain committed to the successful development of pimavanserin and have established a development strategy that they believe will strengthen the PDP program.
In a recent study, researchers discuss a new method of tracking the Nav1.7 channel to reduce the reliance on more invasive diagnostic measures.
BBC News Magazine examines an antiviral drug called Draco, developed by Todd Rider, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, "which has proven successful against all 15 viruses to which it has been applied in lab trials with human tissue and mice," including "the common cold, H1N1 or swine flu, a polio virus, dengue fever, and the notorious and fatal Ebola virus."
