Four new projects, announced today, will develop biological methods that offer a new approach to antibiotic production, power generation for extremely small mechanical components, new classes of medicines and innovative techniques to study cell biology.
The first sign of dangerous heat stroke can be just that – no sweat. As the temperature rises, your body's natural cooling mechanism, sweat (or more kindly, perspiration), evaporates and helps to cool your body. But on those hot, humid cut-the-air-with-a knife days, evaporation is slowed and your body may not be able to keep itself cool.
When communicating with white patients, black physicians may face greater challenges than their white counterparts, according to a University of South Carolina study.
Modern Healthcare: The federal Health Information Technology Policy Committee is calling for the development of a national program that would monitor patient safety problems in health care IT systems. "The first among the work group's recommendations was a proposal to create 'a national transparent oversight process and information system,' similar to a patient-safety organization, that could receive reports from various sources about patient-safety issues linked to the use of healthcare IT systems."
Masimo announced today that a new clinical study demonstrating the clinical accuracy of its noninvasive and continuous hemoglobin (SpHb®) monitoring technology breakthrough was presented last week at the Society for Technology in Anesthesia (STA) Annual Meeting.
