In a paper published this week in Science, experts caution that important ethical issues in the testing of new therapies like stem cells may not be receiving the attention they deserve. Carnegie Mellon University's Dr. Alex John London (Dept. of Philosophy) joined McGill University's Dr. Jonathan Kimmelman (Faculty of Medicine) and University of Wisconsin-Madison's Marina Emborg (Dept. of Medical Physics) to examine the way scientists, physicians, and regulators evaluate risk and benefit when testing new drugs in human beings for the first time.
Despite international commitments made by nearly all of the 193 United Nations member states, dozens of countries lack important legal protections against children doing work that could be harmful or interfere with their education, a study by the WORLD Policy Analysis Center at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health has found.
National Stroke Association has launched a new Faces of Stroke(SM) mini-campaign designed to educate about the connection between stroke and Afib, a type of irregular heartbeat that increases risk of stroke by five times.
A new study shows that domestic abuse is closely linked to postpartum mental health problems, including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), in mothers. The research also found that specific types of abuse are associated with specific mental health problems.
PharmaMar has announced the start of an open-label multi-centre two-stage Phase II trial with the anti-tumour drug PM184. The trial will be conducted in 10 European clinical centres and will include 106 patients. The trial will focus on patients with hormone-receptor positive, HER2-negative, locally advanced and/or metastatic breast cancer, who have experienced progression following earlier treatment with anthracyclines and taxanes.
