When Alfred Williams was admitted to Ochsner Medical Center in December, the 41-year-old father of five had exhausted all treatment options for his enlarged heart. His condition, known as dilated cardiomyopathy, had progressed to end-stage heart failure affecting both sides of his heart. Unable to walk, he had been confined to a bed for months. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing a new, risk-based enforcement approach to the regulation of homeopathic products that are potentially the most harmful to people.
IRIN examines a recent comment piece in the journal Lancet that argues PEPFAR can do more to prevent the spread of HIV among injecting drug users (IDUs) in Africa (IRIN, 6/24).

Mohler, MD, of Roswell Park Cancer Institute and chair of the NCCN Guidelines Panel for Prostate Cancer, discussed the role of active surveillance as well as other treatment options recommended in the recently updated NCCN Guidelines™ for Prostate Cancer at the NCCN 15th Annual Conference.
